Prior to his current position, Mburu Gitu built a distinguished career in the civil society sector, most notably serving as the Executive Director of the Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA) for eight years until late 2020. His extensive leadership portfolio also includes tenure as the Secretary of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, Executive Director of the Legal Resources Foundation, and Senior Policy Officer at the Netherlands Embassy. Additionally, he honed his skills in organizational development and program evaluation as a Team Leader at Reflections and Futures consulting. Sylvia Kasanga is a distinguished architect, arbitrator, and entrepreneur who serves as the Founder and Managing Director of Sycum Solutions Co Ltd, a leading architectural and construction management firm based in Nairobi. With over two decades of experience in the construction industry, she established the company in 2004 to provide holistic services ranging from feasibility studies and architectural design to construction management and post-defects liability support. Her leadership at Sycum Solutions is characterized by a commitment to creating culturally robust, environmentally friendly designs that address the unique challenges of the African context while managing tight budgets and complex project demands. Beyond her corporate role, Sylvia Kasanga is a prominent public servant and advocate who has served as a Nominated Senator in the Kenyan Parliament. During her tenure, she championed critical legislative reforms, including sponsoring the Mental Health (Amendment) Act and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Bill, reflecting her dual expertise as a mental health champion and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb). She has over 30 years of experience in various fields including and not limited to Coordination, Administration, Gender mainstreaming, Capacity Building and Training, Mediation, Counselling and Psychology. She has worked in several organizations and places ranging from UN agencies on humanitarian work and International NGOs working in Northern Kenya, Somalia and South Sudan, the Media and much more.
